Hmm... so we have a very large hen. She's not fat, very active, and really is just fluffy.
This is what she lays. Not the OE of course.



We are hatching a few chicks from her, 1 or 2 I think. Anyone else have big hens? The rest of ours are smaller than her.

is she fluffy or really big .

I do have both .the difference is the big one should weight over 4 Kg and the fluffy one weight less even they look bigger .

I toe punched my Blue Copper Marans chick today. I have got to say for my first toe punch it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!!!! There was only a very tiny speck of blood and the chick didn't even move.

Hello All,

Thought I would share some photos of my new fluffy butts that hatched last night / today. I hatched 15 chicks for a hatch rate of 55%. I was hoping for better but I guess that's not too bad since my Cockerels are newbies to the breeding game. Most of the chicks are BLCMs with a couple of BCMs. The chicks show good vigor and are well chunky. I'm liking their hatch down but I have a couple of chicks with a good amount of white on their faces / over their eyes so I've tagged them so I can track how their color develops (I'm looking to see if they carry the parasitic white). I'll post a separate photo so y'all can see what I'm talking about.

they look great to me .proper hatch down color . don t worry about little white on the faces .that is normal as long as the white on the body is restricted to a minimum .
nice blue too and great type .
let see how they grow up .

love the last photo . double tagged . she is a pullet and she has a proper hatch down

I like the blue copper better .the black one hasn t got a pretty face .but look chunky to me and has a long backand nice short feet .

I'm taliking about the blue one, his parents are the blue rooster I got and my biggest bcm hen. I've posted pictures in earlier post. I got better pictures but BYC never lets me upload them

Thanks Chooks Man! I'm well pleased with them. The pullet in the last photo is the daughter of Otis and I have 2 more pullets from him with the same proper hatch down. One of the pullets with the proper hatch down has a faint copper dot on the back of her head - she is tagged differently so I can track her development.

the copper dot on the BCM chick is always a good sign
