Thanks Chooks Man, I really appreciate the kind words! I'm really happy with the pullets from this hatch but not so much with the cockerels. Only one Cockerel really stands out to me but he has brown eyes. I'll get better pics of Pullets #1 and #2 for you to critique as well as of the cockerels that I'm considering.

When I started with this group of Marans I only had 3 decent hens to work with - one each of a BCM, BLCM and Splash. So this Spring I bred hoping for some quality pullets to give me more breeding choices. I think I have my pullets line in Briscoe and Charlene. Hopefully the BLCM Pullets will help me expand and improve my BCMs.

Thanks Again,
Keith

One of the best birchen Marans breeders here in the states is Harvey Moore. He's got much greater pool than myself, and he's got a Facebook group called birchen Marans. Mine aren't from him directly, but if I need more later, that's where I will go. He also is working on a blue birchen project, but on a scale I can't match.

Harvey Moores Facebook Page is called HD Quality Marans. Mr. Moore has really nice Birchens as well as several other Marans varieties including a Blue Cuckoo Marans Project.

Here is Handsome on the upper and the cull blue birchen View attachment 1112108
Handsome is either molting his tail or got into a fight with Jack, who I have found loves pulling tails.
The eyes on the green fire lines aren't quite as clear orange as my original line. Will this cause problems bringing in Handsome over all my girls? I'm finding I was overzealous in culling out the sprigs and lost a bit of silver in the process, not to mention the raccoons. I'm actually rather excited to see what Handsome will do next spring.

love they long big bodies .they ll be huge when fully matured .
they eyes are brown not orange as we like to be - Not bad easy to fix . Black are bad
one with a pure silver is lucking the shoulder color but I love his pure silver
the second will more colorful but his silver is not as pure he still carry the Autossomal red Ar.
I like they black plumage .pure and free from any white . great asset

they have going for them
and the comb is class . I know in the USA call for 5 point but for me I work with the French so he has a great comb all ready 9/10
I ll take 1 point of because the back of his comb is split not smoothly round

you need to mate them to a hen with a great pure silver hackle and gorgeous orange eyes .
they are going a be good for you .

you welcome .

some cockerel can only produce nice pullets not cockerel .
other produce nice cockerels but not the pullets
the special one they produce both type .

same thing for the hens

it is our job to find out who is who and pair to they best .

now you ll have more nice pullets to work with

I ll love to see what Briscoe over his daughters will yield .

I picked up my blcm cockerel yesterday. He needs alot of TLC. He was attacked by a raccoon last month, but I believe he has a mite issue, so he is in quarantine. I am treating his wounds and his bug issue. He has pretty eyes and a good comb, and a wide chest but as far as his color/markings go, I do not know what is best for a blcm cockerel. He has lost alot of tail feathers from coon attack and mites. His legs seem to be the correct color and the feathering appears to be correct but he has damage to his leg feathers and skin. I will post pics in a couple of weeks of his tail and legs. I want him to heal some and grow some feathering back. He is 1 1/2 years old and a half brother to Zorro. They share the same father a bcm cockerel, but Blue's mother is a splash marans hen. Thanks for any comments. I have him alone as chook's man suggested. He is not mean but has trust issues. I think he will be a lot prettier when he has healed and is healthier. Blue is Bev Davis/Wade Gene lines.

he is the best on body color because his mama was splash ( some time is hard to breed from the splash because we can not see they true body marking )
but his head is stunning . I ll breed from him just for that

BREEDING IS NOT JUST ABOUT BODY COLOR there is many many other important trait ,some are easy to fix other are harder .

keep him separate and give him more protein in his ration to promote the feathers growth .and he ll love you for it .meal worm or some thing like. that will help him and he ll become your best friend .

blue-boy-face-jpg.1112299

he has a pretty face
gorgeous eyes
correct comb nice point well spaced and well define .
good size wattle .nice shape and texture red and free from any folding
lovely ears lobe thin long and red
well colored beak strong and short

if you manage to get out of him few pullets with that sort of head and comb ,I think they ll be hard to beat .
find him a well colored hens . even with extra on her chest . that will help

I agree. The first two FRF pullets have long gamey looking fan tails and leaner bodies like Gretta. I will keep them though because likely they will have very nice egg color. They will stick around as layers if nothing else.

If #3 has a nice tail, I may be able to use her after all. :)

if they lay dark eggs than is all different story .
every thing could be fixed . don t dismiss them because of they body type and high tail .
EGG COLOR COME FIRST
body type second
body color marking third
comb and eyes
free from parasitic white
feathered shanks last thing .easiest thing to fix
