International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Top Centre, an extraordinary eggs colour, caused by a very slow passage of a few days, through the oviduct allowing an accumulation of porphyrin pigments on the shell. Nearly a black-violet colour .

Top Left, same colour as the egg to the right but with a brilliance that shows extra quality. A Mahogany shade.
Top Right, A frequent colour with the pigment deposited in very fine dot points.
Bottom Pair, Eggs showing pigment deposited in splotches.

It should be noted that selection for the black-violet coloured egg would drastically reduce egg production.

(I thought this might be useful to those of you on the thread)

You asked how much my hen weighed, she is approx. 6.39 lb. That is 2.9 kg from what a google conversion chart says. I will have to invest in a scale for my eggs and my chickens, it is probably a gadget worth having.

@Chooks man

that is good weight .2.9Kg

so mass is not an issue than.
So she only need a good comb and pretty eyes with a well marked chest rooster to be paired with to give a great result.

nice to know this little thingd they help in pairing the breeders .

She is quite a long bird, I was almost worried that was a bad thing as most I have seen are more wide and short in length. I was happy to hear that it could be a asset. Almost all my hens could use a well marked rooster. Kind of ironic that the average chicken keeper dreads roosters and we are all trying to get enough to end up with a few nice ones haha.
