International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hi RedBank;

Coq 1 what his story with his tail open and neck well stretch ?, IS he excited about some thing.? He didn t had a open tail in the first photos. was pyramid shape .the hackle look lush gold not copper like before .I suspect the sun . Does t to me all the time.

Coq 2 = I see his back well long and wide all the way from shoulder to tail .I think the sun is playing with the color because photo 1 and photo 2 the copper is different. photo 1 lighter at the base .Photo 2 look a same color.
But we see the flame at the base going all the way tell the middle plus the black part is wider than the copper part . should be other way around, coppery feather with a thin Black strip giving t impression of light flames.

Coq 3 = best colored one .best copper , best comb best tail .He s just grumpy NOT a happy chook. his copper is perfect . look at the flames at his hackle thin and minimum . I like him a lot

let see in few month how they turn up when fully grown .

Okay..... now we will wait.

I like Coq 3 too.

I went to the breeder I got my marans from poor guy paid 40 eur for a roo whit a bad comb (the last two dents look like cut off). only 2 hens are good, one has golden hackle and all the rest are black.

my question is: the roo's colouring is ok, when he breeds black hens what the chicks will be like?

Quote: I looked at them again this morning. Their color is good except for Coq 2's hackles. I took those pictures in the sun right before dusk, it puts a glow on everything and we were in the middle of a hawk alert, It happens all day around here.

Hi RedBank I knew the glow of they color was caused the sun. does happen to me all the time, specially with a birchen make then look more of the straw than silver.

Coq 1 looked to me he was on the alert .

white feathers on the wings of the BC chicks are parasitic ,they will go away after the first molt. if they still have them when adult then is a fault.

We can get ready of the parasitic feathers by selective breeding .choosing at lease on breeder ho did not exhibited them. long process .

Hi Chickengr . if the rooster is well marked or just ok mated to a black copper hens without hackle will give a good percentage of well marked chick

Depend what genes he carries as well as recessive ( the thing we do not see ).

the comb if was cut accidentally then is ok for breeding but if genetic deformity then is problem .

thanks. if some of my hens get broody I can get some eggs from this breeder. with those eggs I know what I can expect and if I get eggs from the others there might be surprises.

the comb is not cut but has a V shape before the last 2 dents that make it look like cut. I am afraid that is genetic.

I have just rehomed my little cockerel. he had 2 almost completely white feathers on his wing. I will keep mario (daddy bcm) and marco, who still has some white markings on his feet feathers but they are disappearing. I have 1 pullet only, marco's full sister. I have no choice but put her with these 2 guys. I hope she will not let marco mate with her as at the moment she does. they are still in the teenager's coop. as she is dark she and mario could have nice offspring (he has 2 golden patches on his hackles).
