the rest of his body is not as great in this photo .look triangular to me not long and stretchy ( rectangular type . more like a brick on it side )
does he always hold him self like that ?

the back of the marans Rooster should be long ,flat ,wide all the way and tilted a little at the back .

Here is a pure LA pullet I have still free ranging. Her type and color is good, and her tail angle is one of my best (if it stays that low) but she does have a little white in her earlobes. You can barely see it in the last pic. I will probably still single mate her to Maximus and maybe even Apollo later on to experiment to see how the chicks look from each breeding. Both roosters have good red earlobes.

Thank you! I am very proud of her.

She is now unhappily penned up so I can get her cleaned out. She has pouted all day despite the big cozy 5x8ft pen with plenty of fresh straw to scratch. lol

Thank you! I haven't been able to sleep tonight and I've been tempted to go check on her again but I dont want the flashlight to stress her. I will take pics after the sun is up.

The two pups I saw earlier were badger marked on their heads with solid white bodies. The badger marked GP pups are my favorite. Rosie was badger marked when she was a pup. The markings fade as the pups mature and they're usually solid white when they are full grown. I always love having puppies around, until its time to train them with the chickens that is.

Its really surprised me that Rowdy was able to father the pups, he is nearing 11 years old.

As of just a few minutes ago, Rosie has 5 pups I counted, unless she is laying on some (please no!) She gave birth under the brooder building so I can't get to her right now. I will crawl under there and check them out when the sun is up fully.

They are all marked up except for one, best I can tell. Great Pyrenees pups can be born solid white or badger faced and with spots. The color fades for the most part as the dog matures. You can see Rosie still has some residual color on her ears from the badger markings of her youth. Cuties they are!

@RedBanks you used to breed dogs, will advanced age in the sire produce smaller litter size? Rosie's last litter she had 12. Sorry.. I know this isnt a GP thread but its kind of related. The dogs guard my Marans, that counts right?? lol

I believe the age of the dam is more important but the age of the sire does matter to a lesser extent.

this pullet is correct in all the physical aspect .
she is absolutely stunning ,and she is your way out from the high tail .
hatch about 20 chicks from her and Maximus and 20 from apollo and I ll guaranty to you your tail problem will be out of the window .
focus on this pullets as your main breeder from a good tail .

you and RedBank are working with a stock carrying all this bad genes in they make up ( high tail .Vulture Hooks and the huge comb ) so you need to breed them out with some serious selective breeding .LP line come from a limited stock . so the Atavistic return of the recessive genes is at play . need to be crossed out .
a lot of tail genes are sex linked . so most of the cockerel tail feathers are from his mama hen . very important to know that .
here who I ll do it
mate this gorgeous pullets to maximus and Apollo . hatch 20/25 chicks from each mating .
select the best cockerels ( 2/3 will be good) with a faultless tail and mate them back to they Dam ( gorgeous pullet) and hatch 20/25 chicks from each combination .
now most of the BC1 ( first back cross) progeny will have a good tail .pullets and cockerels . ET VOILA .tail problem is out for good in one line .
from this line take the correct one and mate them to other lines .
