International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Antonio's wasn't that great early on but it really has gotten very very copper. Look at those FRF roosters!

Antonio's Copper is lovely! And both the LP and GFF roosters had very even copper color. His sire, Mud had nice copper too, but Gretta has a very light hackle so that is where Gideon gets it from. I can cull through their offspring hard and hopefully get a few decent birds from them though. The chicks I got from you will help me improve a lot of their issues I'm hoping. :)

Kitchen counter and all! You have done me proud. The chicks are adorable!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

I am testing my comb knowledge here to see if I am thinking correctly. Upon looking at Gideon's comb again, I see 6 points.. right? The blade isn't split, the upper part of what I originally thought was the blade is actually another point (point 6). The blade does have a small notch in it, does that still make it a split blade? @Chooks man @RedBanks Is that right?

Old Man Tom, Your birds are lovely! Have your pullets started laying yet? Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!
Pullet are not laying. I have 14 pullets and 7 hens. Hens are molting and are not laying. I kept three cockerels this year. The plan is to bred 1 cock bird to 7 hens and rotate the cocks between the three groups. That's 30 chics per hen times 21 hens, times 3 cocks!!! Jeezz that's about 6000 chics!!! Glad we love chics

You'll sure have plenty to choose from out of 6000 chicks. My quota is much lower than yours for the upcoming year but my breeding plan is similar. I have just a few pullets picked out to breed from out of the females I raised. I plan to single mate them to Maximus first, then to Apollo and see which cockerel produces the best chicks. The chicks are wing banded at birth so I can keep accurate records. Good luck to you! I look forward to seeing your results! :D

Hello All,

I'm doing well! I am close to finishing rebuilding my parents house after the flood caused by Hurricane Harvey. I have a couple of more weeks of work and they can move back home. I'm taking Thanksgiving Week off.

Y'all have been REALLY BUSY on this thread!! I've enjoyed seeing all the new pics - lots of beautiful Marans! My bride has done a good job taking care of my Marans while I've been away. I'm way behind on my breeding plan for this coming year so I have some catching up to do. I had to leave about the time my 2017 pullets started laying so I have no idea who is laying what.

RedBanks & KFelton0002 - So happy to see y'all teaming up! Y'all both have beautiful birds and they should compliment each other very well.

ChooksMan - You have some stunning Marans my Friend! And Thank You for the continuing education on all things Marans.

Chickengr - So happy to hear you were not affected by the floods in Greece! Also, your girls are giving you some nice dark eggs.

Take Care All,
Keith

welcome back! glad to hear your parents will be at their home again and look forward to see pics of your beautiful birds and their eggs.
