International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Oh and if I go all "radio silent" and seem to disappear for the next.. oh say 5 months it is because I am starting my last semester of the ADN (RN) program and will likely be studying my brains out. But hopefully I can still pop in from time to time. In between exams and bouts of hysteria. Lol. The life of a nursing student is never a boring one. I work full time as an LPN as well and I have a 3 year old toddler and hundreds of chickens. Never a dull moment.

Yeah the breeder told me they weren't "perfect" and that they were a work in progress. He just offered to send me some to get me started so I could start working with some decent Marans. The birds I have now are a far cry better than the garbage I hatched out in December and January from "breeders". We live and learn. Haha! I will post pics of my cockerel once he grows up some more. My pullets from this line (Bev Davis x Little Peddler) are all dark chested best I can tell. However, my pullet from the Greenfire Farm x Little Peddler line has some copper in her chest. She is the one in the front.

Yeah maybe they are not perfect but they are close to it.
they have a type .the body color. great marans heads.

What they need is the Autossomal Red ( red shoulder and spotted chest on the rooster ) they will help to clear the sheen a little .

Black chest pullets will be mated to well colored chest rooster to give a show bird quality

Spotted chest pullets will be matted to a Black chest rooster = great result

Keeping the BALANCE is the key .

Great advice! I appreciate it. I have one little cockerel in my youngest group (from a different breeder) and he has a very well colored breast already. I have high hopes he will be a keeper. :)
