International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I am keeping these three. Even if the tails do come up. These are nice cockerels.

All seven. Not the best pictures. Some definitely need to go now.... including Tony2. Waiting for Chooks man to see if I should go ahead and cull Antonio too. Oww, that hurt just to write it! Culls are three on the right and the one on the far left.

That one on the far right has white in his earlobes so you may want to steer clear of him since you have 2 others with good red earlobes.

Otherwise I love them! The 2 on the left are stunning! Wish my grow outs looked that good! They really are nice birds.

Update on Jazz. He is 6 months old today. He doesn't have that nice long marans back, so I am a little disappointed. His back is just way to short. He's got a straw colored hackle like his father at the bottom:(. I wish his comb was better, and not resting on his head in the back. Also got some black fuzz at the base of his tail. Lots of cons with this guy. He's very colorful and sweet. I am hoping, maybe a better rooster will come along in this last batch that just hatched. It's fun watching them grow and change. Gonna stick some more F1's in the bator tomorrow.

The black fuzz at the base of his tail is okay. You only need to be concerned there if the fuzzy down is white. Despite the issues you mentioned is he at all an improvement over his sire? Dont get discouraged, we're not going to get it all right in one generation. Single mate your male to your best hen with the longest back and best tail to help remedy the short back issue. I feel you there, believe me. I am struggling with the same issues myself, but we'll get there. :)

Tony2 had an earlobe that looked like that too and it disappeared but you are right I will watch for that. Fingers crossed for tails and combs. They have really good rectangular bodies. They are already as big as Tony2.
