International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I have a Cuckoo Marans that just started laying. Every egg is a huge double yolker! Today I was amazed at the size of the egg. I always put eggs in my pocket when I am out in the yard. Never had one break before. Todays was just too big. I wanted to send a picture but this is one from two days ago.

The egg next to it is a egg from an older BCM (not a pullet) so you can see just how big that egg is. This is the only kind of egg she has laid. Big and double yolks.

She is too fat .I bet you she is pul 1.

that what happen when pullets grow faster especially with a winter hatching .

here how I rise my winter hatched pullets . Chicks started for the first 10 weeks.
Pullets grower for 2 weeks than I start giving then mix grain ( 13% protein s) by the 4 weeks I ll give them 50/50 one feeder each . I help them build they frames and strange bones , when the time comes I ll put them into the layers diet 15%

Spring hatched pullet ; first 8 weeks Chicks starter than a pullets grower tell the point of laying I ll change they diet to breeders feed 17% plus mix grains at 13% proteins .

I have no problem with double yolk .

I have been trying to find my way around the French Marans Aspirans forum.  I have to copy and paste into a translator everything that google doesn't translate.  The other day I was reading one of the posts and I said "Mon Dieu" out loud to myself instead of OMG.  It is funny...... I am starting to think in French.  I was terrible at High School French.  I only remember where is the library and chocolate ice cream.  Very important things to know if you are ever in France.  Zut alors...... I will be fluent in French before long!

Lol same here. I remember une feuille de papier (a sheet of paper). So at least I would never go without paper if I were to visit France. Oh and je m'apelle Kayla.. which means my name is Kayla. ;)

Quote: Those pullets are 5 months old and have been chunky since day one. They have wide heads very solid. I don't feed them a lot. They have mostly free ranged. I will work on more food control. They are locked up right not so easier to control.

I have been having trouble with BYC all day..... anyone else?

Yes its been very frustrating. I wasnt sure if it was the mobile app on my phone or if the whole site was on the fritz. Ive had to refresh pages and threads a bunch to get them to load and then when trying to post it was saying "post submitted" or whatever but it wasnt posting.

I work with a butcher . he call up to the farm and does his job.

he get payed by taking a third of the cull chooks ( I ll give him 30 out of 100. Good deal to me and to him .both happy) .I don t have to touch them strait into the freezer .I haven t bought chooks meat since I start rising the chooks. Marans chooks are the best testing chooks out there, especially the wheaten and the buff strain from western Australia. Class

we did over a 1000 chooks this year ( 2015 breeding season ) .

me I have no problem cooking them or killing them . a problem is my dogs . they don t eat fresh chicken HAS to be cooked .Guess they can smell they friends .

chooks man

I need to start asking the guy I give my culls to if he will do a few for me in return. I tend to forget about them as soon as I get rid of them, I also have some old hens that need to be culled off., can't pass up the idea of chicken and dumplings.
