International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

@RedBanks our local weather related danger is forest fire, but I understand the worry of keeping a lot of animals safe when nature gets nasty. I hope all goes well.
I am in the process of collecting large pet carriers, enough to evacuate all my birds in the event we needed to. My husband doesn't know lol.
Well..... it never hurts to be prepared. I hope you never have to use them but would love to see the look on his face when you tell him the chickens are going with you! We are completely back up and running here. I let the chickens out mostly for their peace of mind. I figured they had a hard enough day yesterday. Let them get out in the sun and do what chickens do. I didn't want them stressed anymore today after last night.

@Chooks man
Hope you are doing alright with the weather, the move and the laptop! When it rains it pours, literally.

I am afraid of the fire too although there are very few things to burn around me. I wonder if there is anything that we can build for chickens in case of fire. I know that smoke would probably be the worst thing that cannot be avoided. would mister help with smoke?

in case of fire I would bring my chickens and dogs in the house and shut the doors and windows.

no more chickens hatched today from the french eggs. and my friend was wrong, no olive egger either. another chick that hatched is easter egger, hopefully a pullet

I hope everyone is OK. 16 weeks old. Handsome devil number 1 Handsome devil number 2 Handsome devil number 3 Handsome devil number 4 Handsome devil number 5
Something that stands out to me with cockerels 1 and 4 is what looks like vulture hocks. I had a cockerel with vulture hocks this year. The feathers on the thigh point backwards and slightly downward, and seem stiffer than the normal fluffier thigh feathers that should be there. My cockerel was culled for this reason. Here is a pic of him before we culled.

And a pic when he was younger..

And as quoted on the Little Peddler website explaining vulture hocks on the flaw page: "Vulture Hocks: Gene V Recessive. Long and stiff feathers on the posterior area of the tibia. Characteristic of Belgian Bearded d'Uccle, Breda, Sultan." Your cockerel #2 is probably my pick out of the bunch. He seems like he standing up in an alert pose but his type looks pretty good and his tail isnt too high. My second pick is #5 but he isnt as chunky as cockerel #2. @Chooks man can give you a better run down of your birds. Their copper and eye color is good also. :)
