Sorry Chooks man.... the Cuckoos don't even lay a 4 but I am going to fix that!

every thing could be fixed , just time and some work that all.

you know before the marans hen was bred ,the dark egg did not exist in any breed used to create it . the magic happen in crossing .some mutation happen when the genes cross over and congregate in new way ( new sequence ).

when the dark egg appeared they selected for that trait . this is a reason why the marans breed is so rich on varieties .because too many different breeds used to create it .

controlled crossing with a good plan will restore the lost trait ( like a dark egg ) .

here few photos of my chooks they are getting used to the place . they are all over now .

they are number 3 cream based not pink based witch is good .

they have been washed out with bad breeding practices .

I like they shape nice almost oval not long pointed from both sides .

It looks wonderful and the birds do too. Monique is the only silver hackled Cuckoo I have. She looks like the bird on the right in the next to the last picture. I saw many pictures of your place on Marans Aspiran. It is such a beautiful farm. What kind of nursery stock do you grow?

I do have a couple marans, I got 4 that are 8 weeks old. they were supposed to be BCM but I belive one is just black. my question is how can I properly breed any marans and what kind of marans to end up with a good pure BCM line. I have plenty of room and time to do whatever I need do.I will get better pictures when I get off this evening to upload, I'm afraid these won't be much help

Hi there fellow Mississipian haha.

Are the birds in the picture that uploaded (the other photos aren't showing up for me) all 8 weeks?

One is considerably smaller than the other 3 that I am seeing.

Maybe try to re-upload those photos?
