International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

he is ok body wise is going to be a big boy .
nice type
nice flat long back
nice tail at the right angle .

2 thing are wrong with him
his comb is bad ( comb come from the hen any way )
his rear fluff is white .should be blue /gray .

DO not mate a Blue to a Blue ,you will end up with a really bad blue ton plus splash and BC

for a great result you need a pair of Black copper .than you mate a Blue to a Black . you will get 50% each well colored ,and better blue ton .

the Black s help to keep the blue with a nice ton ( blue pigeon breast color ) and the Blue helps to keep the sheen down on the Black copper .

all the best .

I have a question: if you mate black/blue and then mate their black offspring to the other black, will their offspring be black or there might be a few blue? does it matter who is blue, hen or rooster?

hi chickengr we hardly see you around ,you must be busy woman those days.

how is a little French chick is doing ?

any way the Black coming out of the Blue X Black =are really black Not Black carrying a Blue . they are just pure black as pure as the one coming out of Black X Black .

By the way...... most of my girls have that cushion too! That is why it was so easy for me to recognize! LOL

RedBank you are mixing the fluff with a cushion .

Cushion can run over the back between the neck and the tail . or side way long the back line .
Cushion is like a bump where the feathers are not flat but they for a cushion .

Fluff = there is 3 type of fluff
1) all the rear part of the chooks is fluffy .
2) only fluffy around a thigh .
3) fluffy around a tail ( a lot marans hens do have that fluff ).

Type - The cockerel is well built. He is balanced. He has the rectangular silhouette of the Marans. Still young.
Head=His head is correct. Good width. Long and flat. Very nice
Comb = Split lobe but all in all the comb does not detract from his overall appearance. Lobe does not touch the back of the head. Rough texture
Wattles= Just right, fine texture
Eyes = Correct color
Ears tuft = copper with a touch of dark
Ears lode = good, long and red
Neck = long arching toward the head, very nice
Back = long and straight
Tail = Good angle, tented, very nice
Wings = short and held close to the body
Chest = Flat, doesn't have the bow look I like but it could also be the angle he is standing, he seems to be angled away from the camera and that could be the cause of his chest looking flat
Legs = Legs are dark, bottom of the foot showing white/pink, nicely feathered
Shanks = sturdy and straight
Feathers type and color = feathers close to the body, nice sheen on wing triangle and tail
body color = Flat black
Hackle color= Good copper, no flame
Lancets color = good color
Back color = Where? Good mahogany shoulder

A very nice Marans Cockerel!
