International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

shame I lost Herculus Today , he couldn t mak e it . i lost his sister 2 weeks ago .and now I lost him . big problem .now I lost the Columbian gene . I have to start from scratch . I see what I can do . I ll be able to bring the colombian gene back from mixing the silver cuckoo hen with White Storm . long way .
Such a shame. Sorry you lost your beautiful Hercules. I know how it feels to lose important birds. We nearly lost one of our most important lines of Gamefowl this year. A line that my husband has had for over 10 years. You will get your columbian gene back because you are an incredible and patient breeder. Good luck!

sorry for your loss, RIP handsome guy.

I'm sorry.

I feel for you Chooks Man!

Thank you all .
I was said yesterday .
Today is another day . life goes on .
spent 5 hours last night on the chicken genetic calculator to see from where I can get this colombian gene back to show up .
I found that I have 66.5% chances I could bring it out of the White Storm and his sister ( they both carry the Db _ Dark Brown _ Black tail buff gene) matted to the Birchen hens ( mother/ant of Hercules ).

The cross is going to give me a impure colombian cockerels ( like Hercules) as F1 . So I should have a new Hercules junior around Xmas ( will be my present from me to my self ,that great )

When found the Formula of making Hercules junior I was happy again and I went to sleep .

So I should have many Hercules junior at Xmas time . he ha .
Life is good,we just have to keep pushing that all .

Wow, you folks have been busy on this forum! I've been in Ireland for the past 3 weeks on holiday / vacation. We had a great trip and the Irish are some of the friendliest people I've ever met. So, last night I logged on to this forum only to find over 400 unread posts which took me 3 hours to read. Welcome to all of the new subscribers to this forum.

@Chooks Man - Thanks for the breeding lessons on creating different varieties of Marans...very interesting and wishing I had the space to take on such an ambitious project.

RedBanks - Bello, Claude and Antonio are absolute studs and Gabby, well, let's just say that I feel about Gabby the same way you and Chooks Man feel about Antonio and Claude. You egg color is excellent. I agree with Chooks Man, you have all you need to breed your own quality line of BCMs.

Winterhorses - You have a great foundation for a quality breeding program with your BCMs. Very nice birds!

My birds are 5 months old today...they change so much from week to week and month to month. It seems I have a new favorite every time I look at them. Out of 13 hatched chicks I have 3 nice cockerels (all BCM) and 3 nice pullets (one each BCM, Blue CM and Splash). Yes RedBanks, Otis is one of the three cockerels. I'm gonna give them another month before I post updated photos. The pullets are starting to get their combs and wattles so I expect they'll start to lay in the next month or so. Hopefully they have good egg color.

Good to be back online,
Keith
I just got back..... good to hear from you. Ireland! I am jealous..... I am half Irish and half Italian. I am looking forward to seeing Otis etal.

He's very pretty! do you sell eggs to hatch?

Welcome to our thread and BYC. I am not sure which rooster you liked..... there are some beautiful ones posted here. If you "quote" the post with the picture, the bird's owner can respond.
