International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Bello's group is 8 months and includes Gabby. Claude and Antonio's group are 7 months. Time for me to get more! I have never been this long without a new bunch coming up.

Chicks are indeed a lot of fun.

Hopefully all goes well with everyone this spring, hatching season is coming up

Soon everyones incubators and broodies will be hatching out ton of eggs.

can anyone recommend a good book about breeding, maybe something about marans also.

Hmm, does this thread count?

I honestly do not know of any.

I will make a list if I can find a few.

Thank you all for your help. I have a few BCM already but from what I have been reading they are not great stock. I will hang around in the background, reading your poststo see if I want to get involved in the breeding of these birds. I have a lot to learn if I go that rout.

I had a pair of bcm that were not good but they gave me 2 fairly good offspring. post the photos of yours and people will tell you what to do with them.

luna's mom's first eggs and luna's:

luna's egg photo was taken inside with the flash so it looks a bit lighter. her mom later laid #5. luna was hatched from the colour of her first egg.

I probably will not breed him.
This is My only pullet, non feathered shanks

now we are talking ,she is pretty .i ll breed from her even if she did not have leg never mind feathers .

I ll breed her just for her gorgeous red coppery hackle ( it is hard thing to get not a feathered shank need one generation to fix )

nice body type ,
nice deep chest .
nice hackle
nice long back
nice face
nice feather type .
nice black .

She look s like Chickengr pullet LUNA .

is she a hatch mate to the cockerel ( they don t look to me they come from a same parent stock . I could be wrong)

thread is knowledgeable, I just don't know as much as everyone else so honestly I don't even like to interrupt. I'm just looking for line breeding basics, in steps.

we help you do line breeding ,marans breeding ,variety creation .Back crossing to establish a line ,just be patient and don t be shy .
we are not interrupting any body .this thread is for every one who likes a marans chooks and want to breed them and have fun .

we don t teach no one but we learn from each others .

we are far away from line breeding ,we are just starting to understand the importance of choosing the breeding and see if they correct each other in they progeny .

you are with us ,your chooks are young .let them do some growing and keep following the thread .it is just start to get interesting .My breeding season is almost started and I m going a go through a lot photos ( of a good chicks ,bad chicks ,what to look for ) and a lot information .

I don t think you are going to find any book any where to explain the marans thing like I m gong to do it .

So get your note books ready and better with a lot pages Because I m going to give attention to the detail one by one ( at least 2000 chicks is going to be studied here is this thread .all the marans varieties .

NEVER been done before any where .

All the Best
