International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hi everyone!
I am looking for some chicks that are less then $15 a piece..
I'm looking for about 20 chicks that can be ready for shipping in January. I am planning on using them for 4H, which is why I need them early, possibly State Fair depends on how well they do at County. I will also use them for breeding once they hit a year.

Contact @FeelsRightFarm, she is getting ready to start setting eggs again. Both Redbanks and I have chickens from her lines (Little Peddler and Greenfire Farm). Redbanks is getting great egg color from hers. Mine are still too young to lay.

She has excellent bloodlines and Redbanks' chickens from her are some of the nicest I have ever seen. I have no doubt you would do well showing Marans from Feels Right Farm. Good luck!

Your pens look fantastic chooks... Looks like u have a fair bit of land..

My chickens get to run outside their pen every other day as my new blue rooster and my Muskovey duck r having relationship issues... Lol

My chickens love running down to the barn and lay in the sawdust and fluff it into themselves...

Tried to get a picture of the mossy chick. She/he was totally uncooperative and the camera wouldn't get clear pictures any closer. You can't really see the mossiness but at least it's a picture of a cute chick lol

AuroraDream,

I can see some of the mossiness on this chick but in my opinion it's not bad at all. Overall, his coloring is good - white / gray down is limited to his throat, chest, belly and wing tips. You don't want too much white on the face and head. My guess is he will be a nicely colored cockerel. OK, you're probably wondering why I keep saying your chick is a he. It's just a guess but he stands like a cockerel (upright, alert stature), large legs / feet and no tail feathers. These are good indicators of sex in a young chick but not 100%. By 4-5 weeks his comb and wattles should be more developed than his female hatch-mates. Chooks man is pretty good at guessing the sex of a chick so maybe he'll comment. It will be interesting to see how he grows out.

Chooks Man's dog is a Blue Heeler, Australian Cattle Dog. My new dog..... we had a major break thru today! Instead of trying to kill the chickens he walked quietly among them. He is by no means 100% but I think he can get there.... now we have to work on the cats, horses and goats!
Nice looking boy you have there a RedBanks!!! Like the name too - it has a nice Texas ring to it! Keith
