International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

These are two chicks of the batch, I am planning to get better photos of my favorites (about 5 chicks) tomorrow... I believe one is a cockerel in pullets clothing haha. They are about 7 weeks old. Here is my favorite cockerel, some of the hatch has very poorly feathered shanks. He happens to be one of the batch that has poor shank feathering. Only a tiny bit of feathers at the very top of his shank. Body pic of the same cockerel. He has no white wing feather, never did. Green eyes are a very prevalent within this bunch, I am excited about that. Here is a chick that I presume is a pullet, it is kinda on that line that makes me not 100% sure of it's sex. I shall presume that it is a pullet. Her under fluff is much denser than a few of the others, I am not sure if this is because of the temps they are exposed to or just a trait that she has. Body pic of her, here you can notice that loose under fluff. All are proving to be very chunky, healthy chicks. So far I haven't notice any high tails, they are still very young though.
You have some nice looking chicks Braxton. IMO, the second chick is a pullet - keep track of her because she appears that she may mature early. I had a similar looking pullet that started laying at 19 weeks. Good luck with your brood. Keith

Hello everyone!

I have been MIA for a while. I apologize for being so inactive. My birds are well.
The chicks have grown so fast and I need to post pictures of a few... particularly my favorite cockerel.

They are little troopers. They live outside with their foster mom and they run about in the daytime even if it is below freezing temps.
I have to make them go inside at dusk and they all give me a ear full every time haha. I am impressed by them on a daily basis. They remind me of wild chickens in the way they act sometimes, fun to see them feel so comfortable no matter the conditions.

Now for the reason I was so inactive...

As many of you know my grandmother died in November, my family all agreed that we all felt a little incomplete since we no longer had anyone living next door.
We decided that we wanted to offer my grandmother's home to her brother, he accepted and we have all felt so much joy by having him here.
He has already started to tell us stories about his life and we all have enjoyed learning more about him.

What a wonderful post.....
