2 Cream Lb both boys .
5 Aras white strain

chooks man
Looks like you're having about the same luck with Cream Legbars as I am. Out of 14 eggs, 12 developed. Out of those 12 only 3 hatched. But for shipped eggs I can't complain. All of their air cells looked pretty rough when I received them so I'm lucky I got 3 to hatch. I have another set due Jan 5th in the incubator so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for at least a couple chicks from that bunch (only 5 developing).

I ended up with 2 boys and a girl. One boy is really light, the other boy has blurred markings on his back and head, and he has a good head spot. The girl has no head spot and has chipmunk markings. Hoping I sexed them right.

What do you think about them? These pics were taken straight out of the incubator. They are now a couple days old. The pics are not the best as they hadn't fluffed out all the way from hatching. They are spunky little things.

Looks like 2 boys and a girl to me. My last legbar hatch had a lousy ratio too. I had 6 hatch. 4 boys, two girls and lost one of the girls.

I have bought an incubator

can't wait for broodies.

@Chooks man what about the humidity if I hatch marans eggs with the other breeds? I plan to put some naked neck's and maybe silkie's and brahma's for a friend of mine. I have 1 marans and 2 laying NNs so I cannot collect 48 eggs in a short time so I offered a friend to hatch some eggs.

Thank you! They have such big personalities for little chicks and remind me a lot of our Game chicks. Kind of high strung and jumpy, very alert. Hope you get a good hatch tonight! I love hatch day. It never gets old. :) Sometimes I joke that the chickens live better than we do. LOL

Aww Im sorry one of your little girls died. Legbars seem seem harder to hatch than other breeds. That's the way it goes. The more you want eggs to hatch the worse they do. I have had near 100% hatch rate with some Leghorn/ Sussex crosses of ours Ive been incubating for my friend. He wants the hybrids for meat/layers. Wish everything else hatched that good!

I have tried the dry incubation that some people recommend for Marans eggs and I dont really care for it. The chicks seem to hatch much better when I aim to keep humidity around 35-40% for the first 18 days and up to 65-70% at lockdown. I've hatched Marans alongside our other breeds with humidity in the 40's the first 18 days and have done well. Humidity is important, but what is more important is temp and ventilation. Keep a small hole open and your temp on point. Try to avoid temp spikes if you have a manual thermostat. Temp a tad low wont harm the eggs, but it will increase gestation length (chicks hatch later). But a temp spike too high can nuke the whole batch.

Regulate your temp for a day or so prior to setting eggs to make sure it is good. When you add eggs you may notice the temp is lower for a bit but dont regulate the thermostat. Unheated eggs can cause it to be low until they warm to set temp. Wait 24 hours before increasing temp because it will usually come up.

Unplug or turn off the incubator when you open it.

That's all I can think of for now.

Congratulations on your new incubator! Post lots of pics of your babies when they hatch! :)

thanks.

the incubator is automatic. I want to try it without eggs first. I think to put another thermometer inside to check if the temperature is what it shows. I don't trust blindly the electronic parts as I had bad experience related to my job. double check is a must.
