I lost my BCM rooster to a hawk attack yesterday. He saved every single one of his hens and somehow survived the attack but was so severely injured we had no choice but to euthanize him. I had been having mixed feelings about him for some time as he had shown aggression issues towards me a handful of times, but I am so grateful to him for giving his life to save his flock.
I have two of his sons in the basement, they are just a couple of weeks old, so hopefully one will grow into a lovely rooster with a temperament more like his mother's.

Looks like you're having about the same luck with Cream Legbars as I am. Out of 14 eggs, 12 developed. Out of those 12 only 3 hatched. But for shipped eggs I can't complain. All of their air cells looked pretty rough when I received them so I'm lucky I got 3 to hatch. I have another set due Jan 5th in the incubator so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for at least a couple chicks from that bunch (only 5 developing). I ended up with 2 boys and a girl. One boy is really light, the other boy has blurred markings on his back and head, and he has a good head spot. The girl has no head spot and has chipmunk markings. Hoping I sexed them right. What do you think about them? These pics were taken straight out of the incubator. They are now a couple days old. The pics are not the best as they hadn't fluffed out all the way from hatching. They are spunky little things. :love *Look at those little crests!* Cockerel #1: Cockerel #2: Pullet (that is not a head spot, it's a tiny bit of wet down still stuck to her head): *I know this isn't a Legbar thread. I just couldn't resist posting pics of my new babies! You all are my people. Who better to share in my joy! :weee
Nice looking chicks!! Chicks are cute so show them off! Keith

Sorry you lost your rooster! He'll live on thru his sons.

can't wait for broodies.

@Chooks man what about the humidity if I hatch marans eggs with the other breeds? I plan to put some naked neck's and maybe silkie's and brahma's for a friend of mine. I have 1 marans and 2 laying NNs so I cannot collect 48 eggs in a short time so I offered a friend to hatch some eggs.

happy for you ,
you are getting there ,your addiction to the chooks is going out hand , 1 incubator ,than maybe 2 etc......................really happy for you . the bator will help you to organize your hatch when you want them .

I incubate all my chooks egg the same way together ( marans .Cream Lb and Aracauna ) 40/50% humidity is good for the first 18 day .

sorry for your loss.

I prefer aggressive roos. my puppy roo was sitting and watching while dog was killing a hen. handsome and useless.
