International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I like his copper color - rich, vibrant - he's still developing color on his shoulders and saddle feathers but looks good so far. He has nice orange eyes (they should become richer as he ages), nice long back and good medium sized legs (neither too short or to long). He looks to be a little shallow in the breast but I think that is to do with the angle of the photo (angled down). For me it would be too early to decide if he's a keeper or not. He still has a lot of growing to do - you won't really see his true color until after his second adult molt. If you have the space let him grow out more. I wouldn't make any decisions until he is at least 6 months old.

Take Care,
Keith

Thank you for the advice.

Marchick,

You've done well - very nice chicks, good type and vibrant! I like the color and sheen of your pullet eggs too, especially the middle one.

Take Care,
Keith

Thank you, I am pleased with the color. I just wish my camera wouldn't lighten them so much. They look better in real life. I also have 8 chicks that are 3 weeks old and two that are 1 week old. I hope I get a few pullets. When they get a little older I will post a picture.

Sorry I took so long to reply. I have been so buisy. The one on the left I am sure it is a little cockerel. The one on the right has a injury to her comb.View attachment 551706 oh and a picture of my first eggs from my 3 Blue Coppers and 1 Black Copper. Not sure which ones layed them but I know 3 of the 4 layed. My camera always makes them look so light. I need a new camera!!!

I have a question on the BLCM on the right with the beak injury. She was the only chick I had outside the cage and she would pace rubbing the wire trying to get in with the other chicks. Should I lance the lump on her beak and put something on it?

Who has the best birds in the US? Just saw an auction from green fire farms go for around $30/chick. Not interested in showing but I want the best.

She has a lump on her beak from rubbing back and forth against the wire cage. She was outside of the cage and I had younger chicks inside. I tried putting her in with them but she was a naughty girl. I don't know if I should lance it and put something on it.

Here are the three blue Birchen Marans cockerels. One is big and very masculine, but his color is not particularly great. The littlest, skinniest cockerel has really good color potential. The guy in between is in between on everything. Size, color, shape.
