They are a real challenge aren't they! If I wasn't trying to perfect them there isn't a breed I like better. I love the mumbling and talking. The way they follow me all over the yard and come running when they see me (all food motivated).

I have one hen that lays a very long egg, so long you can't close the egg carton but it is not a double yolk. Should I hatch an odd egg like that?

She has all those things. I really don't have any hens that I would not want in my program.... some are better than others like Gabby. Okay..... I get it, it is just our way you know. We have been trained to throw them away for the most minor infractions.

@ Chooks man I found the pictures. Gabby and Claude are from this group. Antonio was from the second hatch group.

Here at 11 weeks, my favorite cockerel that ended up with a wry tail, slow feathered. Antonio's son looks like this cockerel to me.

Antonio s son has a tail . he look in the photo as a long specimen . but you know better .the photos some time are not really accurate .

You are correct. He is long and I can see his body is nice and rectangular. It is his head carriage, neck I guess that reminds me of the other cockerel. It is that pretty look that Gabby has too. If that makes any sense. Some look like dinosaurs, some are kind of pretty. What a chicken woman I am! Laughing at myself.

Just dropping in to say that the eggs I got from Monique have been hatching! I have 17 chicks so far and maybe one or two more
There are a few different varieties, Black Copper, White, and 'Coucou a camail argenté', I'm not sure what that is in English? And some eggs she wasn't sure what they were, so it will be a surprise!
They started hatching on Tuesday and unfortunately I've mostly been at work and my husband is looking after them. I'll do a proper review of them at the weekend and post some pictures.

don t forget the rooster has some thing to do with a the eggs shape /color and sheen not only the hen .
if she is correct i ll breed from her .

my Scandinavia the mother s of my birchen line , she used to lay a long egg number 4/5 at her best .
now her daughters and G daughters lay different eggs .some are dark and oval . other are long /light .some large and well colored 5/6 . noughing has been added to line .true inbred line .

Shiraz . 3 years old BCM hen daughter of Walker over sahara
she is selected to go into Tobambezi pen .she is his grand aunt
she has a gorgeous body type . pure black plumage / no parasitic white ( the white you see is D Earth powder from the nest box) orange eyes .great well colored hackle .

I m expecting 100% no parasitic white from they progeny and great body type
she ll correct the comb .
