I think high tails are going to start causing an issue in our flock. These are some random girls that got caught over the last couple of days.

I guess that way we avoid breeding full siblings. it is important to mark differently chicks from each pen.

yes my friend .
when we start a new line ,we try to keep as much genetic diversity as we can ,when the line is almost fault less ,we can start mating the true siblings to see if any recessive genes are left hiding in there .

when we work with pen breeding it is easier to mark the chicks ,we mark them by pen number , not as line breeding where each chick must be marked individually .

gorgeous egg .lovely colour and sheen .

it is time for you to focus on the tail angle and shape .
some of your hen have a long tail .
Shiraz seem to me has a good low thin tail . if yes .she is your way out .

it is easier to fix the tail angle when the back is long and correct like your hens .

Alright. So focus on tails. Do you have any examples of a nice tail, or anyone else you know of?
Does Shazia have a correct tail that we should try to recreate?
If she crosses with Day Walker, who has a higher tail I think, will that start causing problems?
And I can never remember, which parent passes on the body frame and which passes on the color?
Since Day Walker has a higher tail, should we try to find lower tailed hens?

I wing band so I know for sure. The Birchen are not full siblings to the Blue Birchen. They came from two different pens. Chooks mans plan would give more diversity for sure. I am very worried though. I don't have enough room and pens to work with these properly. I will be working to clean up the silver in the blue Birchen. I also want to work on egg color.
