International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I moved Lion Heart over to a pen with my two Birchen pullets. I also put a Blue Birchen pullet in with him the one that Chooks man liked best. The one with the red and white leg bands. I am thinking of naming her Love. What do you think? The two Birchen pullets still need names. I am terribly with names.

love is great name for her .
here couples of names for your 2 birchen pullets .
Harmony
Peace/.

They are doing good! Thank you! Zorro is walking around eating and drinking. Like nothing happened. I will give him a week or so then give him some female company. Lion Heart will get some female company here pretty soon.

Pleased they are fine .
I told you don t to worry about .they are tough. they don t care .they seem to forget the trouble they put us through .
now is your turn too toughen up ,not each time they cockerels fight you start thinking about a new hobby .
you have to stick to breeding chooks ,and let them know you are the boss .

good luck pairing up Zerro . he scared you a little bugger .

Thank you for this explanation on parasitic white in the Marans. I have been trying to find more information on this particular problem. This helps. Do you have any links to more material that I could follow up on? best regards :)

there is not much link where you can study the parasitic white .
most of what we know come from practice and experiment from chooks breeders .
parasitic colours are comment in chooks ,parasitic white . red rust.

BC marans suffer two type of parasitic pollution . parasitic white and red leakage .
the parasitic white is the hardest thing to breed out .

The tip that it’s one of the harder things to breed out is valuable, thank you. It turns out this specific forum has quite a bit of info regarding the white, (in bits spread out across the years). The posts with example pics of chicks were especially helpful.

there is enough information in this thread about how to breed and select BC marans .take your time and read through it .you don t need to look else where .

@Chickem707

here what I think of your rooster .
body type =great .rectangular shape ,
body mass = great .thick and chunky
body colour = great pattern and well marked .uniform copper could be a little darker .
Head .good .
Comb .very bad .too large .too arched .the back of it is touching the neck .the front of it is too large and twisted . the point on the comb are good .
Wattles = too large . not good .they should be small to medium size .
ears lobe . good colour a shape .could be a little smaller .
Ears tufts = good copper colour
eyes = great .bright orange .
Neck ,great .strong ,well coloured .
Back = nice and long .
Shoulder .great colour . rich red
Tail = good shape and form but too high . the angle is at 90 degree. should be 45 to 60
Chest = deep and well shaped .
Legs = nice size .nice colour and well feathered .

over all he is good .need to be mated to hens/pullets with a nice tail angle and great comb .

I don t see much of the parasitic white on him . his down colour look free from any white ..the tail feathers are free from any white .

what his name .and what his story . any photos of the hens you are going to work with ?
