International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thanks Chooks man, all these birds are half siblings from a person who was working with both Greenfire and Mashburn lines. I do need to introduce some outside/small comb genetics. I don’t think I could ever breed away from it, line breeding this group.

Both Roos have a borderline leg spacing/stance. They are not knock kneed but legs are not well spaced for birds their size. Roo 1 has the orange eye(bad lighting in these pics as sun was setting), roo 2 is orange but darker.

You mentioned putting roo 1 over hen 1 and 3. Did you mean roo 2 for tail angle? Roo 1 tail angle concerns me. If you were to keep just one roo and breed a generation forward before introducing new genetics, which roo would you use? Looking to get a couple more good hens by next fall from this line.

Marchick does have beautiful birds, maybe I could convince her to sell a doz for a spring hatch.

Thanks again for your input Chooks Man, your direction is very much respected and appreciated.
I don't mind sharing but I have not had any luck getting shipped eggs. I have not shipped myself. I think it has to do with them going to office in Spokane. They are just scrambled. I ordered 45 very expensive eggs from Harvey and he packs better than anyone. I only had like 4 or 5 eggs hatch. Everytime I have gotten eggs shipped it has been the same way. Even the time I shipped across the state.

Luck is like weather changes all time ,you never know when is going to work and when it doesn t . better keep trying .

your birds are exceptional. I would love the chance to hatch some of them, but understand the risks with shipping across the country.

It would be a while before I could ship eggs. Getting cold here and only my two pullets are laying. I also have a lot of culling to do. Then pens setup so probably looking end of February. I wont be hatching for myself until march or April. Darn I probably should test hatch first to see.... I will crack a bunch open first and make sure on fertility. If you want to wait till I test hatch it would be later.

Weather may be less of a factor later on too. I would be happy to get eggs any time of the year.

Thanks Marchick

I am stressing over culling! Today one White cockerel and the tall legged Birchen is going. I have someone supposed to buy my splash cockerel and pullet. I still have the other Birchen and Blue Birchen. Should we cull them and keep original Birchen. Should I hold on to them and see? I also pulled two Birchen pullets and have someone that might take them.
I am not sure if I should cull a whole variety. Give more room for my Coppers. If you where me which would you part with? Which would you keep. Limited pens.

Your welcome! I think later would be best. Frozen eggs wouldn't be good. Shipment of eggs stuck in the passes would also not be good. We will watch weather and ship when best. I got your back. Just work out the details.
