International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Chooksman, Thought I would post a few more pictures. I noticed the Blue Birchen Cockerel has white in his tail. Is that a bad thing just like in the BC? I added some pictures of the one Birchen cockerel also.

Well, I am still so torn on what to do! I really think it would be best to just concentrate on my Coppers. With just Coppers I will still only be able to hatch about 50 to grow out. If I worked with Birchen also. It wouldn't work. I may keep one pen Birchen and one pen whites. For now just mainly for eggs. I may eventually cull all of them. Wednesday we are going to thin out cockerels. This is the wrong time of year to sell birds. It is way too cold and winter is coming.

Luck is like weather changes all time ,you never know when is going to work and when it doesn t . better keep trying .

I agree with you , if you can only hatch 50 chicks ,than keep only BLC and BC for breeding .25 chicks from each pen ,seem good plan to me .
if you do ,you can maintain a healthy line for a lot time .

white on the tail is a bad news . guess the cocking pot will solf a problem .

last night I had to change the chicks leg band group 2 . they are 2 and 3 weeks old .. the is some stunning one , lovely conformation .

Group1 are 5/6 weeks old ,very big ,this Sunday they will moved to a bigger pen .to harden them up before they will move to they final orchid pen . there is some gorgeous one in this group too . well happy about them

checked the eggs last nght .
Day Walker 34 eggs went in 11 bad and 23 good .no bad for his first time with a girls .
Enki 25 eggs . 3 bad and 22 good . impressive .
Black Mamba 6 in 1 bad and 5 good .

well happy .
looking forward to see Day Walker chicks .I trustted him with my best hens .I gave him all the chances he need .
he is doing very good now .he really look after his girls .nice to see .they seem happy with him too . 7 hens penned with him for a moment . only breeding from him .for 3 more weks tell Nov 17 th . last incubation of the season and of the year .

Chooksman, I would be lost without you. I will need your help for sure. So to make sure on my plan of action. The 2 blue pullets in with blaze? Mom hen and 2 BC in with Nimbus? We have talked about so much I don't remember. Sorry! I will try and get updated pictures of the BC pullets today.

Yes .you are correct .
Blaze with 2 BLC pullets
Nimbus with Mom hen and 2 BC pullets .

will be nice if you can breed the Mom hen to both occkerel , to get a son from her with Blaze . genetic diverssity .

I will try and do that. I still have one younger BLC she might turn out good. She looks like she came from same hen. Time will tell. I will try and get some pictures when it warms up. It is only 22 degrees farenheit out now. I closed everyone in the house and not letting them out till it gets above freezing.
