Yes, I prefer the shade of this cockerel’s copper but he is severely lacking in his body pattern and loaded with parasitic white.I like his copper better.

Very important- 50% of the dark egg gene equation. Unfortunately, for me, the cockerels I’m posting were purchased as chicks from a breeder so I don’t know exactly who his sire and dam are or what color of egg they hatched from. The Breeders hens lay on average #6-7. I won’t truly know how egg color will play out until the pullets start laying and I hatch some chicks later this year. What do you think about the roos part in egg color?

I hope you do as well! That was the only super dark egg I have gotten since I started breeding Marans. My BLCMs lay an average of 6 so I’m pleased with that.@kcrandall
Hope to be able to have an egg like your avatar once the Pullets start laying shortly. Beautiful!!
50-75 if I’m lucky. My BCM Pullets are 21 weeks old and have not yet reached point of lay. It will probably be mid-to-late summer before their eggs are large enough to incubate.Just for fun how many chicks do you all plan on hatching this year??
I am planning on 100-150 FBCM. If I have a lot of broody hens I will stuff there butts with more eggs to.![]()
I speak French also, heck no can I read it. It would take me a day to read a page in a newspaper![]()
This is Hakon a 21 week BCM Cockerel. He is not perfect but he has what I need to put complete hackles on his female progeny. I like his complete body pattern, black under fluff (no parasitic white) and eye color. He is a little unbalanced (front heavy) but he is still growing so he may balance out at maturity. His comb also needs refinement - a little larger than I prefer. I would prefer for his copper markings to be a couple of shades darker and richer in appearance and he has a slight halo. I have two pullets with incomplete hackles (but darker copper) and two all black pullets that I intend to breed him to when they are ready.
