International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I hope you have been well... I get difficult months. It has not been happy time here, sever illness for me, flock got sick too (got through that), then during a food supply line scare our flock was stolen (all the Marans and several other rare and unrare breeds... including the birds in my Avatar)... then we got hit by a hawk which killed our only Roosters... remaining birds are locked up and we are building stuff (oh yeah a big storm severely damaged coops)... starting over... chicks ordered. Eventually we will do hatching eggs again but not before building more. So ticked off about the theft. Argh.

love your determination . only way is forward .
wishing you all best .

Just checking in.
We are still moving everything to the new place.
All the chickens and coops are moved. That was some crazy, stressful stuff!

Coops are in place and the property has an 8x16 run-in shed I am using to house all the marans together until I get their runs rebuilt and attached to their coops. They are all getting along fine which I was not expecting. Thats a plus.

I will be back when I get everything situated properly.

The new line of Marans I hatched out are beautiful. Even though it looked like all cockerels, there are actually only 4 out of 9.

Cant wait to share some pictures with you!

Be well everyone!

lovely to hear from you . looking forward to see your marans and your new set up .
all the best .

Thank you Chooks man! I missed you all! I hope things are going to get better here. It's been really ruff. I am just mentally and physically exhausted. I have no pens set up to hatch. I haven't even had time in the pens to even look and assess who are going to be my breeders. I no longer have Black Jack. I lost 3 hens through the winter. We ended up having to stack wood in my largest pen. We had nowhere else to put it. We have wood stacked everywhere. The house repairs are finally done but we are behind on everything else. Just trying to catch up. Blessings to you my friend.

I've hatched so many chicks, but the skunks took about 30 grow out cockerels last week. Selling lots to support my hatching habit, keeping interesting babies to see how they grow up. I'd have to count to see how many I have hatched!
Hopefully you got the skunk. Skunks are my biggest predator! I destroyed 13 skunks one year. They will destroy a whole flock in one night. With 30 grow out you must have over a hundred birds? I have 24 hens this year and that is just right. TOM

I've hatched somewhere around 300 marans, I'll have to re check my tally marks! I've slowed down on hatching them as I have to sell enough chicks to pay all the feed bills for the adults and chicks, otherwise dear husband gets upset with me.

5 years of breeding Black Copper Marans. Hope to have a dozen hens that lay this color!
