International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

View attachment 3430412View attachment 3430413I was going to wait until I got the first 21 to post more egg photos, but I just couldn’t resist sharing this beauty. The year’s first snow put them off a bit, but got the first egg after the snow today. Not massive but it’s still a pullet egg. First is it I my hand and second it in a box of eggs for my dad.
Stunning colour and shape.
Well happy for you.

I don’t actually know which one it is. My blue copper appears the most mature but it’s a very dark egg for a blue. I’ve attached a pic of both.View attachment 3431352the blue pulletView attachment 3431353View attachment 3431370the black pulletView attachment 3431363bonus: todays egg. Not as dark but still damn good
Looking at the 2 pullets combs I think the egg is from the blue one . Her comb is red and fully developed . I like the pullet a lot can you please post better photos of them both , from this photo the blue pullet look like is a big one with a deep chest .

Yes she’s very deep and heavy. Growing into being one of my favourite hens. I’ll get some better photos tomorrow. I need to check with my granddad because he has the habit of putting all the eggs into one tray even though I have a clear system going on with a tray for each pen, so the SD Welsummer eggs get mixed up with marans. I can usually tell the difference because my Wellies lay perfectly matte eggs and marans are shiny, but the Wellie pullets have just started so I can’t be certain if some of my other eggs are Wellie or marans. This dark one is definitely a marans though. I’ll attach what photos I have.

(Don’t have any good ones of the pullets but here’s Loki)

So I took pictures of the 2 blcm pullets and their eggs that they layed today. Blue angel last girl added to breeding pen she has blue and white leg bands now. She layed the darkest spotted egg in pictures. Blue Rose has three different colored leg bands and lays the other egg in pictures.

I can see a lamp what look like side sprig on his comb left side . Can you take a close photo of it . Rather than that his comb has a stunning shape and form

Can someone clarify a "mossy" chick and what it means?

Several chicks coming out of Juniors pen are mossy at a couple of weeks old.

Is it because hens with complete hackle color are with him?

Should I be concerned?
Missy chicks are the one with rusty brown feathers not pure black don t worry about it if they are very young the rustiness will go away same as a white flight on feathers in they wings.
Some mossiness express it self as lacing nothing to worry about it . If the mossiness stay longer as they mature that will be a concerned
