Better photos of Greatsong and the lone pullet.

They are not the best and they both lack mass and her tail is a mess. I hope they fill out and improve with age.

Greatsong just needs to fill out. His tail is nice and short as long as it doesn't turn squirrely....

BUT they both came from very dark eggs.

I will breed her to the 3 nice cockerels and see how they turn out. IF she ever starts to lay.

This book has taken years to write. I can't wait to have all your knowledge in book form!

I promised my publisher I will finish it next year 100% . too many eliment involved . is going to be 1 book or many , number of photos etc............................. the pulisher is suggesting to releasse on encyclopedia. because I have soo much information about marans breeding/selecting/ showing /health/ hatching etc................................
that will be too much work will take me the reste of my life to finish it but could be released one copy at time .I m thinking about all this thing .

I do like the idea of encyclopedia style.
It allows concentrating on limited subjects at a time.

How did I not hear any noise until near the end?!

I about gave up but did not make any decisions until I had control of my emotions. It took quite a few days I'll admit.

I have Greatsong. He is Lovesong and Jr progeny.

I have a pullet hatched from a very dark egg.

I have 3 beautiful cockerels from THE champion line.

So I contacted a customer who bought fertile eggs from me this past spring and bought tiny chicks from those hatched birds. My line.

Lessons I have learned:

-Don't be so smug in your set up that you think nothing can happen.

- Utilize all pens and split them up. Free range pens on different days. If anything happens, you have another pen of birds.

- Keep the gun loaded and by the back door at all times.

Around here we go by the adage of SSS, shoot, shovel, and shush, it solves many a predator problem and prevents problems with neighbors.

I culled down to

next year's hens (molting) and pullets all housed together.

The 3 new cockerels penned together

Lovesong and Moonshine chicks penned together.

I let them all out to free range for the day but left the 3 cockerels penned.

A loose dog dug under the fence and killed them all.

3 new cockerels are alive because they were penned.

1 pullet from the dark egg hatching group and 1 cockerel from Lovesong (Great Song) showed up the next day.

Words can't explain...
Going out to the chicken village and seeing those great big empty pens makes me sick to my stomach.

My Marans that I've worked for years on.
I think I done lost my mind for a couple of weeks there.

Animal control took the dog.
It was from down the road. The woman is pretty belligerent. I am a peaceful person but considering there were other complaints made about this dog that I didnt know of, we will go to court for this one.

I am heartbroken.

Oh No that is terable what happen to your chooks ,all that hard work and dedication dissapeared like that is a moment . I have no word to describe how bad I feel . sorry for your lost that is not right not fair ether .
I wish you where not far away different country from me other wise I ll fill up a truck of marans and drop it to your house .

nice to see your strength and courage ,you are a brave person for sure .
nice for you as well to get access to your own line from chicks ,
we have to find way to get you some marans so you can contenue your work .

that way in my last place I fenced 3 acres out of the 5 and put 4 dogs in it ,all the chooks pens where inside so I left a way clear all around the pens so the dogs could go any where they want without been stopped by chooks pens .last year my dog killed 2 foxes .the foxes went in by they never come out ,they lost they life ,
it is hard to keep chooks around peoples .I m trying to find a place miles away from all human and they animal .I can deal with wild animal are productable ,

Tail is a little high and lacks mass but nice small tail and he has a pretty face. He is still young. Nice leg color.

greatSong look great love his longand well tilted body type ,he is well colored ,nice legs correctly feathered not over board . his tail is nice is high enough but not too high ,the SOP allow up to 60 Degree angle and because of his back is well tiltted make his tail look good . other wise will look too low .

I am so sorry! How heart breaking! They should pay big for that! They need to keep their dogs contained. I wouldn't back down! Please don't be surprised though if you get less than positive responses from ignorant people. I have gotten into arguments with people on the rescue group page. They think they are just chickens. The dogs life is more important. Just go buy more chickens they say. They don't work years to breed a line of Marans. They don't spend thousands of dollars in feed and supplies. They don't clean out buildings and haul buckets of water daily in the heat and cold. Sending love and praying for you and this situation. Again I am so sorry!

agree with you 100% my friend .I do not get along with dogs peoples . they think dogs are human better than all other animal .
I like dog but they are just dog s for me they are not this elete creature God put in earth . human are sick .sorry to say that .
