International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Well the Marans were 5 out 6 hatched. The 1 bad one was undeveloped/possibly unfertilized.
The WTB eggs were shipped and I got 9 chicks out 16 eggs. 1 of the bad wtb eggs had a partially developed chick.
Very good Marans hatch. Shipped I hear are always iffy, too many variables with someone else handling eggs so there's that.

@wrathsfarm Did you get another green egg from Esther to add to the clutch?
Speaking of the she-devil...

Edit... Apparently she's for sale also. 🤪

I’m excited to one day hatch eggs from my own chickens and see what kind of hatch rates I can get from them. That will be a ways off though. The BCMs are about 3 months old now. I hear people recommend not hatching eggs from young hens, so maybe I’ll wait til they’re a year old to start incubating them.

I've heard 8 months is recommended minimum. I've read some breeders wait 1-2 yrs. @Chooks man said here in the thread somewhere about it, but basically stunts their growth when hatching too early from a pullet.

Esther finally laid. So got that one in the oven also. No more going in.
Baker's dozen of Ravens. 3 MMM's and 2 OE, I'm not expecting any but Ravens to hatch so we'll see how it plays out, but if I get a few of Ravens babies I'll be tickled pink. Anything else will be a bonus for a rushed hatch.
Now I gotta put the brooder back together in barn. Tore it apart expanding the Marans coop.
