International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hey all!!

Hoping someone can help me out I bought 3 BCM from Meyers Hatchery on March 25th, they seem to have a lot of white splashes on the chest and 2 have non black beaks…. Hoping the white is fluff and gets pruned out when new feathers come in but I’m curious if anyone has any pics of BCM from meyers hatchary that are 3 weeks so I can compare.

Here is the sus BCM…. Supposed to be a pullet…. Can BCM have a beak that’s not all black and still meet SOP? How about those white spots?

I have 3 additional BCM from a private breeder that are a year old and I don’t remember them having so much white. Here is my BCM roo Harry, just for fun

Thank you
I'm no expert but she looks like a pullet to me still. And from my knowledge the SOP Standard Beak Color is.... Horn. Fading to black is permitted.
Beak shape...Long, stout and well curved.
As far as the white, yes that seems like a lot. I see your concern.

Again I'm no expert and I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong, but does that look like mottling on the feather tips?

Harry is a handsome guy. 🙂

BCM roos' beak is either black or horn colour and hens have black beaks.

Most of my 9 hens only have slight hackle copper. 1 is all black (Betty) and 1 I named (Black) but she does have just a hint of copper just under her beak.
@Chooks man gave a good explanation for why this is becoming more common, but I can't remember the actual quote to recite. I'll try to find it, but if I was just guessing with my limited knowledge, I've been told from @Chooks man and @Bantambird that breeding an over colored roo like my boy Kong who has a little too much color in his chest to my Betty who has no copper will produces proper color progeny. So with that, I have 3 littles I just hatched that are 3 weeks old tomorrow that are my first test hatch from Kong x Betty. So I'm super excited to see the outcome from this.

Altho, I may add your little pullets might be still a little young yet to start showing copper hackles or just late bloomers. My boys usually always start showing color sooner than the girls. Not a tell tale sign of gender id for positive, but just an observation I've noticed with my flock.

Took a few pics today. 3 wks old... I'm seeing at least 2 confirmed boys so far. Both from Joannie. (Purple bands)

And 2 of the 3 from Betty are showing an insane amount of color. (Red bands)
