International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

dark cuckoo is not recognized colour in france. silver cuckoo are those that have silver hackles. gold cuckoo have gold hackles.
Thank you very much. I guess this was the more logical explanation. I just find it odd because dark cuckoos are way more common in the UK than silver cuckoos, with and without feathered legs. Unless some of the ones I think are dark are silver, and they’re more common than I think.
Which one is more common in the US?

the british developed dark cuckoo. they did not exist before. chooks man imported some and worked with them as they had some traits he was after. I think he worked with hens only.

Thank you, this is the sort of information that’s hard to find, that’s one of my favourite things about this thread. It now has me wondering of silver cuckoos are more common here than I realise, and that I have been passing them off as darks with over barred hackles.

Hello again to y'all. I've been trying to catch up. Lots of new faces here! All folks who love their Marans! I've greatly expanded chicken town since I first got on here.. although my only wheaten rooster died right before I could get any offspring from him! I have np clue what happened. No one else got sick or lost weight. He just started panting and adjusting his croup more often, and stopped breeding. Dead in the coop one night.

Possible crop blockage. I had a hen with this few years ago. Did surgery but it was too late. She was too weak from loss of nutrition to heal properly from surgery. It's awful and so sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy.

Sorry for your loss...

Finally got my BCM eggs today. 7 days shipping. My husband got them while I'm at work and he sent me these pictures. I don't know of these are really dark or not. He put them in the sun for pictures. One is cracked at the air cell. It's the extra one that's light colored. He put them resting air cell side up.

Are these decent colored BCM eggs?

I just got my first BCM pullet! She is 4.5 weeks old now and just spent her first day and night outside. She has 5 sisters of all different breeds.
Question's about my BCM: How big will she get? I got her from the Farm Store. Also, how heavily feathered will her feet get? I have a brahma pullet who is the same age and my Brahma's legs are definitely more feathered. Lastly, how dark will her eggs be? I mainly got her for the egg color, but since she is from a mass producing company, will they be as dark as a carefully bred BCM?
