That must be frustrating. To be honest, I think my silkie marshmallow would adopt checks even if she wasn’t broody, not that I’d risk it.

I let a silkie hen to sit but she was interested in sitting only. luckily I was there when 2 chicks walked away and the other silkies tried to kill them. I tried to put them under their mom but she pecked them too. I had some chicks in the brooder so they survived.

Hi my friends it s me chooks man with new user name.mist you all .my marans are thriving and very healthy . I have a lot worked very hard last few years to breed them better. Will post photos soon

Very well and very happy with the Marans. Still trying to get breeder pens built yet but I've got over 100 eggs incubating at the moment.

As if by clockwork a third broody. I think we’re right about them convincing each other. Means I can hatch DCMs, BlCMs and silkies or Wellies. The DCM eggs should arrive today.

The cuckoo eggs arrived, I checked with the breeder and they are dark cuckoos, not silver, despite the lighter hackles.

Not the darkest eggs but they are nice and shiny and the ideal, round shape for Marans eggs, so should compliment the darker egg genes of the other lines in this project.

I can’t wait to have baby cuckoos, it’s a plumage that has really grown on me since first getting marans.

The incubator BCMs were not a good hatch. 9 out the 22. Brinsea 56 is set to hatch next Thursday. Of the 9 one has a head spot. I kept it, leg banded it and shoved it under Chloe that's hatching Solo's eggs last night.
This mornings check on her she has 7 + head spot. 3 eggs remain.
The 8 remaining incubator BCMs are sold today.

I don't know head spots Dam but figured it would be fun to follow it. If it don't work out, I'll sell it. I banded it Blue so it's completely separate from the rest of my banded colors for the time being.

Edited.... From what I could quickly tell all Kong X Solo's chicks ARE identical. Little penguins !! So that's a confirmation there so far. There's 6 more under another broody for more testing.
