International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

@Chooks man do you think it would be worth @wrathsfarm keeping the better of these young cockerels and breeding them back to his better BCM hens to see the result, or just stop using any of Kong’s progeny altogether?
the one he ve got and posted photos of them are not good at all ,but we don t know maybe there is a good one in the young group ,I don t know ,I always comment on what I see and I try to find way to fix it ,for the moment I see he will be better to work with @Bantambird cockerel ,they are proven strain and they will fix his problem ,yes I know some peoples will say why mixing BCM with Birchen , doesn t matter ,let have fun the cross will work ,will take him time to restore a BCM variety but will be good one for sure ,
I always believed and that what I do trying to breed a great marans not breed first ,type and dark eggs layer ,when that is achieved I can breed varieties , no point in breeding varieties if they don t look like marans ,
that my method in breeding marans ,

Forgot to mention I do have eggs from Jett F0, Rebel F1 and chicks from Jett F1s, P, P/G (Joannie F2) and W/R (Raven F2) growing out. Jett and Rebel I haven't hatched from yet so these are test mates. Still options available yet, especially putting high hopes into Jett's progeny.
What that boils down to is by selling these 2 boys I still have cockerels growing out in case something happens to Kong.

Unless of course something wipes out my whole flock.
I hope you will be lucky to get a good looking cockerel .
enjoy breeding marans work with what you ve got ,and one day you will see you have managed to breed great marans .

After seeing Wellington’s comb today, I’m back to thinking 11 is a pullet. I’m liking her type, she seems to just keep growing longer. Very long and low.

Update on the English Dark Cuckoos.
Wellington's Face is reddening fast, his undercolour is pale blue, as it’s supposed to be. He’s a bit squarer than the others, maybe he’ll grow out of it.

Mole is longer in type, her pattern is a tad smokey but maybe her adult feathers will be more in line with standard. This is better than having over-crisp Barred rock type barring. Her legs are darker for some reason, way more grey shading, different to BCMs legs though.

Both cuckoos are smaller than the three French marans from my own flock, but the photos of their parents looked good and chunky so maybe they’re just slower maturing.

The BCM cockerel. Copper on hackles and breast, bigger comb than Wellington. Quite typical of my BCM cockerels, much like Loki at this age. Longer and fuller type than Loki, improved by Chanel’s genetics.

Assuming he is doomed to squirrel tail, but only time will tell

I’m doubtful but if I really wish I could find a solution to the cockerel issue before these boys start crowing, I would love to start working them into my line.

Joannie is feathering in very slowly, but is a tab bigger than the cuckoos. Tiny dark comb. Her beak is long and hooked at the end. Very faint copper on hackles, dark blue eyes. Very subtle mossiness on wings, not noticeable unless looking for it. Mossiness might not be ideal for Black coppers but I’m assuming it’s no issue for the golden cuckoo project.
