I have a 2 month old chick that was not born the healthiest, she/he has a crocked beak but loves to eat and has the sweetest personality which makes this even harder and sad. Today we found her with her intestines falling out of her back side - everything i research says its a prolapsed vent which its not - its not coming out of her vent her vent is intact and she can poop from it... its the area below the vent - like the skin just broke open and everything is pouring out.
I pushed back the intestines in her and covered the area with a small piece of duck tape (i know that sounds mean but its all i had at the moment to keep them from falling back out) i made sure her vent was not covered.
I dont know what to do because i cant cull my chicken, the vet will cost 400 plus in my area, the main reason i dont want to take her is because im not sure if she will make it either way having a severe crocked beak and now this.

I just want to know does anyone know of this or heard of this happening, the skin below the vent breaking open?

Thank you

I have no experience with this. However, I have never had a chick with a beak deformity survive to maturity. One died from poor feeding, and the other was pecked to death by her coop-mates. It is possible that this chick's deformity has made her a target for the other chickens, and that is how her skin tore. I think you handled it the way I would. I would be loathe to cull her if she was growing normally and fitting in well with the flock.

Could be an umbilical hernia,or a navel infection(E.Coli) in the umbilical area.

Chickens survive with scissor/crossed beak, you just need to modify feed/water bowls to accommodate them. Lots of information available regarding scissor beak.
