Hi everyone, here is my introduction post!

Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am totally new to chickens. We got our first baby chicks this spring. They're about 3 months old now, and we just got ourselves a rooster. :)

How many chickens do you have right now?
5!

What breeds do you have?
2 white leghorns, 2 black sex links, and 1 rooster of unknown descent :p He was rescued from a place that did cockfights.

How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Google

Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Planning on getting some sheep/goats as well.

Looking forward to learning a lot from you folks!

Welcome to BYC! So glad you could join us!

Black Stars are awesome! It is so nice of you to have rescued that rooster.

Goats are amazing and sheep are really cute. We had some Nigerian Dwarfs and they are really smart, like a plant eating dog except for far more naughty.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on getting your chicken adventures started :celebrate
Have you checked out the learning centre? Lots of super articles that will help you care for your new flock. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

That's very nice of you to rescue the roo. I hope it all works out with him. Wishing you the very best of luck.

Be sure to ask any questions that you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have a very good and thorough introduction. Black Sex Links are my favorites as they are very friendly and hardy, egg laying machines. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 large brown eggs per hen per year. White Leghorns are also egg laying machines and those two ladies will give you loads of large, white eggs. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there that will keep you from making beginners' mistakes.) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

I love pygmy goats, but I've never been around Nigerian dwarfs. They look so cute! Can you really milk them?

We never succeeded in it, the one time we bred them we got one kid and had to C-section the momma. They were mostly pets. However, I hear they are great for milk, especially for a family farm.

Very late reply, but thanks!

Looking back at my first post, I feel so experienced now! We've grown and we even have some turkeys now. Thanks for all the good information you all have on here. :)
