View attachment 1672761 What breed were your auction finds? That's great that they worked out so well for you, congrats! Hope you enjoy using the site.
We bought 6 birds listed as Red Rangers 3 years ago. 5 ended up Roosters of assorted red colors, but they must have been farm hatched and will not breed back true. They never got any bigger than our wyndotts. We kept the rooster my daughter could catch and carry. It turned out that he keeps the flock in line, but is still gentle enough to pick up. The 1 hen lays an olive egg daily unless brooding ect. She successfully raised 2 batches of chicks last summer. She let my daughters and me pick up the chicks, but didn't let anything else touch them.

Whoa that was a lot of roosters to end up with! At least you got a couple good birds out of the deal and they weren't ALL bad.
Glass half full right?
Ok maybe 1/3 full. :D
Awesome your hen lays olive eggs and is a good mom too!
We were lucky with our first straight run order 24 hens and 1 roo. I think we have been paying for it ever since with at least 2 male birds for every hen.
