I am glad you've finally joined!
Sounds like you have quite a little farm over there :) 40 chickens, wow! What kind of breeds do you have?

You name it... all About color..cream legbar, ameraucana, marans, welsummer, speckled Sussex, olive eggers and more! Trying to use my broody hens right now and it’s been an adventure. First hen was suicidal on most once they started pipping (saved 6 of which 3 were overwhelmingly cracked, but a day later they hatched) and now with next hen eggs have disappeared without a trace BUT we took a huge black snake out earlier in the week. Sigh....

I have a hen that has been broody and this week allowed us to see a new little chick she has been hiding for a couple of days. It is being treated well by the other hens in the coop I have put a smaller waterer in the coop just for the little tyke. Hope your hens go broody, it really is a lot easier than trying to do it yourself with an incubator.
