(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We have had chickens for the last 4 years. Interesting fact, the previous homeowners had chickens and we knew they were moving across the country, so we had the chickens, coop, etc written into our contract to purchase the house.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We have a baker's dozen, 11 hens and 2 roosters.
(3) What breeds do you have? Barred Rock, Araucanas, Buckeye, and a couple Reds. Unsure what the main Rooster is (he was a donated gift from friends who had too many). Several of the hens and the secondary rooster are mixes (hatched from the flock).
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Fresh eggs, watching them come running when I go out to them, knowing they are helping our dogs stay tick free, and helping with the gardens.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Our dogs, canning.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. 4 dogs (shepherd, Malinois, Hound mix, and a Corgi). A cat who thinks she is a dog, who watches over the chickens when she is outside, and will come when called.
