that coop sounds great

mine's mostly old fence palings and some kind of tile sheeting.
my rooster (named Giraffe) is old enough to crow but I found that he stops when I put the radio on. :-D
I know you can eat them but I just think it would feel too strange. I'm going to have to get learning about incubation I guess. Is there a way to tell if your hen is going to be broody?

If you collect the eggs every morning, then they aren't incubated, and no embryo has formed. Fertilized eggs are not baby chicks (embryos) if not incubated for at least 48 hours at the right temp.

So, it is possible to have fertilized eggs that don't grow and hatch, and they are just like any other egg if not incubated. However, as chickens are addicting, you may want to buy and 'bator and catch the hatching bug.

Also, at least two more hens would be a good idea to even out the ratio. Sometimes when there is only one hen to a roo, the hen will be "over-bred" and may have feather loss or injury.
