Sorry to read about your rooster. Is there any way it could have been a human predator? Someone who does not appreciate the crows of a rooster and is sneaking in and killing them? A security camera would be a good investment.

Thanks DobieLover, I ruled out human on my side of town since they all having their roosters and we often get together and share stories about them; our roosters don't agree with us on that

Hi! Welcome to BYC! I'm so sorry for your loss. A broken neck makes me think of a human predator. Especially since your neighbor's chickens were on your side of the fence with a broken neck. I don't know what animal would do that.

Yup human could be the worst enemy for animals, however I doubt in this case. We discuss and observe our birds together, one observation is the dominant roosters stay on their side of the fence although they could easily cross over or under.

I am very new to ducks, none are laying. I should ask my daughter about that she free ranges hers.

The best place to ask duck questions is the Duck forum. Click on the "forums," at top of the page and then scroll down to "Duck forum." I don't know ducks but I think personally they lay eggs where they feel like it, often out of sight.
