Hi i already have a peahen 9mts old and a peacock 1yr plus.

Anyway a pet farm i know is closing down and they have a penhen for sale 2yrs plus approx i think.

Its partner died today, the owner said it had an eye injury.
Is there any eye diseases in peafowl that can cause death.

A friend of mine is getting the dead peacock tomorrow to stuff.
So i should be able to see the injury.

I am just worried if its was worms or something else that may of killking it as i dont want to bring home a new peahen that may have something.

My question is this.
Is it ok to put the 2yr peahen in with my pair ? Would they fight.

I would be worming the new peahen.

Or should i keep her seperate until the week of worming is over.

Cheers

The only thing that affects the eyes and can cause death that I know of are respiratory diseases. It often first is noticed by a watery irritated eye, puss in the eye or the eye starting to bubble in the corners.... I would be careful.

Hi thanks for that.
i suppose i will have to see in the morning what the peahen looks like.
At least i can watch for any of the signs you posted.

Can anyone please tell me what kind of breed mix etc it is.

I put in the new bird with my pair, and they have been aggressive towards her, chasing her around, and going at her when she goes for food.
I didnt think it was going to be like that especially when she is a female, i thought my lad would be happy with two females.

If you have more then one pen you will have to move all to the new pen so the pecking order will be broken, this does not always work but it is a good place to start so everyone gets to be BOSS.

I would also keep them separated for a time to make sure she was not carrying anything, but you have enclosed them together so it might be to late...so do as mentioned above and move them to a neutral pen. Just keep a good eye on them for any signs of illness.

I agree, move them if possible, that USUALLY works for all fowl, and do watch out for those microplasma infections, they can be bad and very contagious. Hopefully that wasn't the case. Watch for sneezing, head shakes, watery eye, swollen eyes. scratching at the head. If you see any of that, get them all on some antibiotics specifically for microplasma infections(chronic respiratory disease)
Hopefully you'll be fine. A s general rule of thumb, when getting in new birds,it is always best , if possible, to quarantine them for 30 days before introducing them to your birds. I know for many this isnt possible, but a good idea to try to go by when ever feasible.
Good luck with them

Thanks everyone.

There has been no signs of any Sneezing, shakes etc so far.

They have been stopping her getting to food so i go in and keep them in corner while she gets a bit.
I am currently worming all the flock at the moment.

I am also working on an extension to the pen and hope to have it finished this weekend when i take down the wire divison, would this extension count as a new pen as such. I have also put up new roosts in the existing pen for her for now and she gets away from them this way.

If this fails i can move them all to another pen soon as i am waiting on gravel etc to complete it.

Cheers
