Introducing baby to mom

I don’t plan on taking baby out, I’m also not too worried about it not eating as they still have yolk to absorb before needing food. Just worried about when it does need to eat.

She decided to brood on the shavings, not really in a nest. But I’ve got a dog crate she likes and I’m going to put it in it’s place, hoping she moves to that as it would help keep baby from others, and closer to mama.

Oh you have her with other Big birds? Definitely get them out of that and set them up because Momma might be stressed and won't settle down to cover baby till it's safe and quiet..

She’s the biggest and meanest out of all of them.(others are bantam chickens and small ducks, other than Muscovy male)

They don’t enter the shed during the day, sometimes our tiny rooster comes in and today he gave the duckling a test nibble but that’s it. At night they’ll be locked up all by themselves.

Helps im building a new shed right now. Will be done tomorrow, she will get the old one all to themselves.

Her in that situation is definitely causing her stress because she is all stressed trying to protect the baby instead of being a Momma...

Do you feel she is stressed @Silkiechicken66 if you think she is you might want to put some fencing up around her and the duckling until you finish tomorrow. Just make sure the duckling can’t get through it.

She doesn’t seem stressed at all, and doesn’t mind the other birds. She’s not protective over the baby, and I haven’t seen her once defend it against the others.

It looks like she really doesn’t feel the need to protect, the flock is her family and she lets them come check out the tiny newcomer. She even pushed the baby away towards the big Muscovy male when he came to see what was up.

As soon as the shed is built, she is being separated just Incase but she isn’t showing any of her stress signs(panting, pacing, hiding in a corner, etc.) I have fencing to put around Incase she ever does seem stressed though.

Well I'm sorry to say if you don't separate them the babies totally at the disposal of all the Birds...I wish you luck and best wishes...

Thank you for the luck. The birds have always been accepting of young ones, but this one is new to mom and I don’t know if she knows what she’s doing(she seems to be learning, letting baby get under occasionally). I’m not worried at all about the other birds, just her not caring for it right.

But I am outside from dawn till midnight every day, so I can keep a very close eye Incase something happens.
