Hi these are my new Silkie chicks! It is my first time hatching chicks. I had my Silkie eggs shipped and hatched them in an incubator. I am new at all this but it does seem like my black chick is a different breed because he has a round fluffy crest on his head where the others don’t. Is this a different breed of Silkie ?

They are adorable! The black one has a vaulted skull, which in crested chickens tends to be an indicator of breed purity I think. It does not mean he is a different breed. Be extra careful with his little fuzzy head because sometimes with silkies their skulls are not fused over on the top with this extra bump so their heads are vulnerable to damage.
