Whew! What a morning. Yesterday I moved a mama and her chick to a ground level nest so the baby wouldn't fall about three feet in case it got out. BIG MISTAKE. I check a few hours later and mama was OFF the remaining eggs and on the baby who had moved to the other side of the coop.
I quickly put the remaining eggs under another hen in hopes that they might still hatch. We'll see.
I've had chickens since 2001 and thought I knew enough. BIG MISTAKE. After having bought 24 birds last spring I've learned what all I didn't know. That's OK because these birds are intriguing; I've found a new passion. Yes, another one.
This site has been helpful in many ways. My hope is that I can help some other novice/rookie in their chicken adventures.
