Welcome to Backyard Chickens. This is a great place to explore and hang out.
Treats once a week layer rest of the time Please.
Are veggies, fruits, flowers, herbs, etc considered treats? I'm a first time chicken mama, so trying to learn all I can. At one of the educational sessions I attended they said that all of these things were fine in moderation, and serve multiple purposes. Nasturtium, for instance, is a natural wormer; mint helps deter rodents, etc. Should I only be giving these things once a week? Because I sprinkle about 1/4 cup of a homemade mixture of herbs and flowers every time I clean their coop, and add roughly 1/4 cup to their layer feed every few days. The fruits and veggies they usually get mid-day and I mix it up so it might be fresh corn one day and blueberries the next.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Nice introduction! You picked a lovely variety of breeds, will make for a colorful chicken yard for sure!

I'm not sure on what trees to plant, however I think they will definitely get their fill in your garden. ;)

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community!
Thank you 😊

Welcome to Backyard Chickens! It sounds like you have a great flock. I personally love using herbs for my chickens, so I’m glad to see other people trying it!!
Thank you! I'm trying to be as natural as possible. They seem to really enjoy the herbs. Plus it helps keep away a lot of pests while also aiding in their health, which will hopefully also aid in our health. 😊

Less than once a week is best

Soon you will be getting lots of eggs in addition to the constant shows of hilarity, which will continue on! Do what is needed to keep your girls and guy safe; several predators on your list are known to kill an entire flock at one go. Welcome to BYC; I laughed several times at your intro!
Thanks! Trying to keep it real. 😂 I definitely look forward to the eggs! We are pretty vigilant regarding the predators. I've got regular chicken wire for 1st wrap, then 1/4 inch, 23g mesh wire fencing around the outside of that, and trenched down about 18 inches. There was a big black snake checking out the area we cleared for the coop and large run a day after we put in the posts, which is when I ordered 300 ft of the 1/4 inch wire fencing. We ran stainless steel wire around all the corner and door gaps and also have 3 dogs who adapted really well to the chickens and have learned to help herd them when I let them free range. I know if something really wants in, it'll do everything it can to get in, but we tried to make it as difficult as we could.
