introducing myself

Our names are John and Mary-kay and we just wanted to say thankyou to everyone who donates to this website. the info shared herein has been invaluable to my hubby and I. We received 50 BO's four weeks ago (plus the extra two they threw in to account for transport losses i guess) so 52 chicks. I have in my mind all the things that we have now been thru, but i cannot begin to regale you all with the stories. lets just say that the girls at work absolutely love it that the hardened, no sympathy, tell it like it is girl has been brought low by a bunch of chicks. One in oarticular is my little roo. I do not know if he is a boy or a girl, I do not care. he snuggles in my arms and comes running to me when i call him and that is enough for me. YES, i believe we have been bitten by the chicken bug. we are newbies. We jumped right in with both feet. NO, no half measures for us. We spend 15 mins every nite with the chickies, to end our day. We have only lost one and that is all we are going to lose thanks to all of yours postings. Anyway, just wanted to say HI and thanks

Ah, well. With 50 you just saved yourself what a lot of us went through - adding them 5-10 at a time after we said we only were going to have 'just 5' chickens LOL

I was only going to have two. That was three weeks ago. Now I have seven, and eggs in an incubator. My friends think I'm crazy!

OK, i would like to say something about my little roo if u can stand it. I love my roo. he is smallish, he doesnt have lots of feathers like the other ones but his comb is large. I tell my husband that he is putting all of his growth into his comb, not his feathers. he stretches out his neck when I hold him, so trusting. We got these 50 chicks with a purpose. 25 are meant for the dinner table, and 25 are meant to lay eggs. we want one rooster so we can have chickies. I have rushed home early to check on them, I have ran out the door in the wee hrs of am to check on them.......if i can just stay focused on roo then the big harvest day wont be so bad right??? right???:| I know we cant keep 50 chickens. It is funny when u have staring contests with the chicks. I told my hubby that they will listen to u if you just have the......staring contest lol
