Hello! So I have an interesting self-brought-on chicken dilemma and could use some opinions on!
The backstory: I purchased 5 chicks (notably 2 of those being silkies) all with a female guarantee, but of course 2 ended up being Roos that unfortunately I had to re-home. That leaves my current flock who are now a year old: a speckled Sussex, a blue splash maran and a single silkie.
I have been wanting to introduce more chickens mostly for additional eggs, but also felt I needed another silkie/silly Batam breed so my silkie isn’t singled out and bullied- unfortunately finding Batam pullets where I live has been pretty difficult. So when I saw a satin pullet for sale I grabbed her now even though my other 2 prepurchased pullets won’t be available til mid July.
The dilemma: my small flock hasn’t been particularly aggressive to the newcomer who is in an XL dog crate with our silkie (so she has an introduction companion) which is good, but I’m wondering if it would be best to have her integrated with the flock when the other pullets arrive, or wait until they arrive and introduce that trio together? If anyone has any experience with this, I would love opinions on which is the better plan!
