Introduction and cleaning question

Hello all! I have my first small flock of four RIRs. I have gotten so much great information from BYC so far! I am a homeschooling mom of four boys. I work part-time as an ABA therapist and run an etsy shop.

I'm really enjoying my girls, but also have a question. I have a small (3x2x2 1/2') hutch attached to a 30ft run, that we use as a tractor. I use pine shavings over newspaper. How often should I be cleaning the hutch?

Cleaning the coop is a personal thing really. I feel that cleanliness is the key to good health and I am constantly cleaning up poop. Others feel that the deep litter method or turning it over frequently and only cleaning out the coop a few times a year is the way to go. So you need to do what ever works for you. Sorry this is not an exact answer for you. LOL

Hello and Welcome To BYC! X3, there is no set answer, since it will depend on a lot of things (how much time they spend in the hutch, the weather, feed, etc with a small hutch you will be cleaning fairly often since you can't use a deep litter type method.

Welcome to BYC. X 4 on no set answer on cleaning. Your coop is somewhat on the small size - I would suspect that you would have to clean it at least weekly.
