Hello, my name is Mac Chickens and it is so awesome to be apart of a global community that has a passion for chickens.
I got my first chicken about 5 years ago- his name was snowflake. My chicken family has since grown and now I have some 14 chickens roaming my backyard. I have two different breeds of chickens, firstly the Ovambo chicken and secondly, the original Venda chicken. These chickens are indigenous to my home country, South Africa.
My favourite aspect of raising backyard chickens are mainly because they're resourceful. Chickens have become apart of my family over the past few years. The kids love having them as pets and we get freshly laid eggs. Not to mention the fact that they keep my backyard clean.
Other hobbies include warm farming, kayaking, cooking, baking and being a full-time mum to my 3 boys.
My husband farms macadamias and I own and run a farm stall on our land. Backyard chickens was referred to me by a friend who is a local vet. She suggested I join the online community when one of my chickens contracted coryza. I hoped onto the BYC and after a short tour of the site I'd learnt more things about my chickens then I did before.
Thank You for creating a community where chicken owners alike can come together.
