introduction my name is Ervin Hoath from British Columbia Canada have been raising chickens for about 5 years.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Water softening requires salts for the filters, it's not horribly high in sodium but chickens don't tolerate a lot of sodium in their diet. You might test your water and find our exactly how much sodium it contains. Too much salt will have them developing heart disease.

My question is can softened water affect chickens?

I don't have an answer to your question.

However, we have heavily treated water here, full of chloramines and fluoride. I have a water filter in my house for our drinking water, and I've been using it to water my baby chicks.
